(Example) This sassafrass wood flute has a removable lural wood mouth
piece making it easy to clean. It is 22" long including the mouthpiece,
is in the key of G with a 7/8" bore. The bird is carved from red cedar
drift wood found along the Susquehanna River. It's beak is made from a
Beaver claw, also from the northern Susquehanna. The flute body is
adorned with Beaver tail strips, cotton and linen string windings, deer
hide and glass beads. The sassafrass and lural woods making the body of
the flute, were collected from fallen limbs here at Spirit Run Lodge.
Barrel of the flute is carved with copies of the petroglyphs on the
Susquehanna River (see link about Susquehanna Petroglyphs) . The
carvings are painted with pipestone paint for enhancement. |
