| Notes: |
I crafted this Turtle pendant from pipestone, which I purchased from the
sacred and traditional quarries in Pipestone, Minnesota. The Turtle is
inlayed with serpentine, a green stone local to this area looking much
like jade, with inlayed turquoise eyes. The long faceted tube beads I
also crafted from pipestone. Aside from the off-white bone beads, all
others are glass trade beads, being at least 200 years old or more. No
machines were used to craft the Turtle or tube beads. I employ the used
of hand tools only with these sacred materials. The Turtle is heated and
finished with bees wax, bear, moose or buffalo greese, as was
traditional. Early trade beads are avilable but far more expensive than
new.
Note: Other totems can be ordered as well using the same
materials. |
