Notes:
Sulfur Inlay: In The Pennsylvania-German Decorated Chest (1978), Monroe H. Fabian states that, "The most unusual type of Pennsylvania-German furniture decoration is that utilizing sulfur inlay." At that time, only 22 pieces of furniture with the yellowish non-wood inlay had been recorded. The application technique however, had not been specifically determined.

(Example) This cherry dovetailed wall box (7 7/8"high x 7" wide x 4 1/4" deep) with sulfur inlay is a result of experimentation with numerous techiques, until the orginal method was rediscovered. The majority of the orginal 18th century period sulfur inlay furniture is mostly crafted in walnut wood. A few pieces have been discovered in cherry. We are pleased to offer the art of sulfur inlay decoration at Spirit Run Lodge. Your inquiries are welcome.
